Throughout the game you've been undertaking all these tasks – some of them fairly unpleasant – without even thinking about it. Atlas isn't the friendly voice in our ear we thought he was: he's actually an evil mastermind. It's something you might not notice to begin with, or dismiss as a polite formality, but it turns out that this phrase has a more chilling connotation.Įventually you find out that "Would you kindly" are actually the words needed to trigger the protagonist to do anything Atlas bids him to, thanks to some pre-game brainwashing. In some ways you can forget the rest, because the most fiendish and mind-blowing plot twist of all came from the original Bioshock. It manages to completely twist every action you've performed in the game so far and even manages to make a comment on the manipulative nature of videogames themselves.įrom the outset, you've been talked to and guided by a chap called Atlas, who always uses the phrase "Would you kindly" before giving you an instruction. The screen fades to white and it turns out the pair have both died. Not only can you not stop it, you all end up in a shootout between our heroes and the Ultranationalists in which you see Gaz executed, Griggs shot dead and Soap badly wounded. Soap still manages to kill Zakhaev and his patrol with Price's pistol, but at the end of the game Price and Soap's fate is totally unknown.

Now most people play Call of Duty for the multiplayer antics, but Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare also had an amazing single-player campaign with top-notch story.Īs you hurtle towards the end of a game you're tasked with trying to stop a nuclear bomb detonating, but unlike most movie plots, no one can actually do anything about it in Modern Warfare.
#SPEC OPS THE LINE ENDING SERIES#
Wesker goes on to become the main villain throughout most of the Resident Evil series until you get to Resident Evil 5 where Chris Redfield eventually kills him. Once a playground for the worlds wealthiest elite, now Dubai has been reclaimed by Mother Nature, buried underneath the most devastating sandstorm ever recorded.

This betrayal was just the beginning, too. Spec Ops: The Lines emotional narrative unfolds within the destroyed opulence of Dubai.

But just before the end you discover that Wesker is actually a double agent for Umbrella and was always set on betraying the team. It came in the form of Albert Wesker, a chap who, for the entire game, you thought was the leader of the STARS. We've always applauded Resident Evil games for offering some quirky storylines over the years, but the original game certainly gets the gong for the biggest plot twist.
